MiNews 1.5 - RSS News Aggregator
Many major news organizations, community web sites and
personal weblogs offer headlines and article summaries in
the form of regularly-updated news feeds using a technology
called RSS. MiNews lets you take these news feeds and view
them together in a simple, ad-free list, so you can quickly
find all the articles that interest you from across the
web.
MiNews is an easy to use and powerful RSS news
aggregator application. It allows you to easily add RSS
feeds using simple drag and drop technology and group your
feeds appropriately. MiNews will then automatically refresh
data from the feeds at a specified interval, or at any time
on request, saving you the trouble of manually visiting all
the sites individually for updates.
A second pane displays all the latest items for each feed,
with a 3rd pane containing a brief synopsis of the
individual item. MiNews contains a built in web-browsing
window, saving the need to open items in a separate browser
application.
MiNews offers an at-a-glance import interface
of OPML standard files for those who already have a list of
news feeds built up. During the import you will be
presented with a list of feeds found in the OPML file that
you may have exported from another program and you can
select those you want to import. After importing, MiNews
will automatically find the favicon associated with the
source of the feed, as a further visual aid.
MiNews contains further innovative features such as
integration with the address book application, allowing you
to easily notify friends of a news item you discover that
might be of interest to them. A bookmarks frame allows any
individual news item to be saved permanently. A search
panel allows speedy discovery of news items.
The built-in web browsing capability of MiNews means you
don't have to keep switching applications to see the full
story of a news or blog item. Simply double-click on the
item in the main table and MiNews replaces the table view
with a built-in web browser view of the full story.
